On June 20, 2025, a closed event titled “The Case for Change: A More Resilient and Sustainable Future with an EU Action Plan for Plant-based Foods” took place at the European Parliament Office in Athens. The event was co-organized by the NGO A Promise to Animals and the Danish Plant-Based Diplomacy initiative.
The gathering fostered a constructive dialogue on the urgent need to shift toward a more sustainable and resilient food system, with a strong focus on boosting both the production and consumption of plant-based foods—in Europe and in Greece.
Taking the Danish National Action Plan for Plant-Based Foods—the first of its kind in Europe—as a starting point, the event presented a range of policy strategies, implementation tools, and best practices that could inspire similar initiatives within the Greek context.
A select group of invitees from the fields of journalism, public policy, and academia attended, creating an atmosphere of genuine exchange and strategic discussion. The event promoted knowledge-sharing and collaboration among key stakeholders committed to the future of sustainable nutrition.
Targeted Exchange with the Danish Delegation
Prior to the main session, a dedicated roundtable was held between selected participants and the Danish delegation. The discussion focused on the practical implementation of Denmark’s Action Plan, highlighting concrete policies, tools, and collaborations that could serve as a model for national adaptation in Greece.
